• Recall the various types and signs of elder abuse and neglect
• List the risk factors among caregivers
• List steps for preventing and reporting elder abuse
Description: Abuse and neglect permeates all aspects of our society. The available information is voluminous and graphic. Cases pertain to both public figures and private individuals and affect people of all ethnic, cultural, racial, economic, and religious backgrounds.
Elders around the world are being abused: harmed in some substantial way, often by people who are directly responsible for their care. In the U.S. alone, more than half a million reports of abuse against elderly Americans reach authorities every year, and millions more cases go unreported In this course we will go into detail about definitions, signs and symptoms, and risk factors.
