Objectives: At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:
• Identify the stages of change
• Identify characteristics of people in each of the stages
• Identify at least one approach to determining which stage of change a person is in
• Identify appropriate strategies to use with people in different stages of change
Description: This course presents an introductory look at Prochaska and DiClemente’s Stages of Change Model (aka Transtheoretical Model of Change). It briefly describes how people in the different Stages of Change may present themselves relative to making changes in a problem behavior. Several simple strategies for evaluating where someone is in the Stages of Change are briefly reviewed.
