Description:
Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial disease that affects the lungs and respiratory system. It was once very common, then almost disappeared for years. Now it’s making a comeback, which is a serious concern for health care facilities. TB bacteria are carried by highly infectious airborne particles called droplet nuclei. Not everyone who is infected gets sick. But after a period of months, years, or even decades, TB can cause serious illness and even death, especially for people with weakened immune systems. The CDC has issued guidelines designed to reduce the TB risk for health care facilities and employees. They call for early identification and treatment of people who are infected and a series of controls within the facility to prevent the spread of infection.
