Training Title: Hoarders: Diagnosis and Treatment, part 2
Clock Hours: 1
Objectives: After completing this course, participants should be able to:
• Recognize the main facts that hamper treatment of hoarding
• Learn about the three components in hoarding
Description: For the past decade, psychologists Randy Frost, Ph.D., Psychology, and Gail Steketee, MSS, Ph.D., Clinical Research, have studied hoarders: people who compulsively acquire a lot of stuff, and then have difficulty discarding the objects they obtain. In their book Stuff: Compulsive Hoarding and the Meaning of Things, the two researchers detail how compulsive behaviors drive sufferers to pile objects throughout their homes. In Part 2 of this series, Frost covers the three problems that hoarders have that must be addressed and the potential barriers clinicians face in providing treatment.
